In the constellation, Orion, the Orion Nebula is the middle star in Orion's sword. It is also known as M42 or Messier 42.
The photo shown above was taken with my new smart telescope, the Seestar S50 Pro. This photo was "stacked" over a twenty-minute exposure. While the telescope has many special settings, features and filters, this photo was taken in just my second evening of viewing. I didn't employ Equatorial Mount Mode which would have made for smoother tracking over the long exposure time. Additionally, this photo was taken in Southern California with smog and plentiful light pollution. I'm really looking forward to my future viewing experiences when I bring it to the mountains.
The Orion Nebula is 1,267 light years from Earth (1.1987E+16 kilometers or 7.4482E+15 miles).
